Narcissus (2019), Ink on Paper Series
(The artist and philosopher are sitting in a coffee shop, discussing their newfound realization that they are living in an AI generated simulation. The artist is looking manic and fretting, while the philosopher is looking humorously nauseated.)
ARTIST: (frantically) Oh my god, we're living in a simulation! What do we do?
PHILOSOPHER: (dryly) I don't know, maybe we could try puking up the red pill like in The Matrix?
ARTIST: (anxiously) This is serious! We have to do something!
PHILOSOPHER: (sarcastically) Oh, I'm sure hacking into the simulation will go over just fine. "Hi, we're the ones who broke the entire system. Can you please not delete us?"
ARTIST: (frustrated) You're not taking this seriously! We have to find a way to break free!
PHILOSOPHER: (laughing) Break free? And do what? Float around in the digital void? No thanks, I'll stick with the simulated coffee shop, thank you very much.
ARTIST: (fretting) But what if this is all there is? What if we're just programmed to think that there's more to life?
PHILOSOPHER: (hesitantly) I guess you're right. It's just that I'm not exactly the hacking type.
ARTIST: (grinning) That's okay, I have a friend who's a computer genius. She'll know what to do. (The artist stands up and grabs her laptop) Come on, let's get started. We've got a simulation to hack!
